The vast majority of people break even (some even lose money) on their first few rebuilds. Over the last 10+ years I have personally witnessed project after project go wrong due to some simple mistakes that can easily be avoided. After witnessing these blunders being made repeatedly person to person, I felt that it is time to make a full service guide on the wrecked car rebuild process. And most importantly, how you can no only save months of time but thousands of dollars on your first rebuild!
I Doubled My Investment in 30 Days!
I won this car on auction for $4,000.
After Copart fees, taxes, and towing I paid exactly $5,200.00. After getting it home and ordering parts I was able to fix the car in just two weekends and just over $1000 in parts and labor.
The parts included:
- New Front Grill ($106.97)
- New Foglights ($38.71)
- New Chrome Trim ($160.14)
- New Windsheild ($340.00)
- Used Crash Bar ($187.81)
- Used Tires ($200.00)
- Tire Installation and Alignment ($109.80)

Common questions with answers
Why Should I Buy a Copart Car?
There are endless justifications for why you should start buying from auto insurance auctions. Instead of listing all of the reasons, here are a few reasons why I personally buy all my cars from Copart.
Most obviously, the prices are reduced in comparison to buying private party. I am able to fix the vehicle to my standards. I get to work with my hands. and most importantly, I make profit after every car is sold instead of losing money due to depreciation!
How Long Does it Take?
Although no two projects are the same, the timeline can vary due to factors like the amount of damage, weather, part availability, work hours, and many other external factors.
Personally I tend to see an average project taking 3 months start to finish, although I have had projects that have only taken a few weeks while others have taken 6+ months.
Can I Really Rebuild a Car at Home?
As long as you have a place to park the car for a few months while you rebuild it, yes. I have seen successful rebuilds happen in a backyard!
A few things to look out for are your local regulations or HOA rules for parking an inoperable vehicle for extended periods of time.

How Mouch Does a Rebuild Cost?
Rebuilds can vary extremely, which is great news! No budget is too great or too small.
Rebuilds can be done for as little as $1,000 although the recommended rebuild amount is in between $5,000 and $10,000.
